Cleaning your mora clock

Every so often you might want to clean your Mora clock . You need to do this very carefully to preserve the integrity of the painted or polished finish

Here’s a general how to guide:

What you'll need to clean your mora clock

  • Soft microfiber cloths

  • Cotton swabs

  • Wood polish or wax for a polished finish

  • Small, soft paintbrush

  • Gloves to keep any oils from your hands transferring to the clock surface

Cleaning the Mora Clock Body

  1. Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth or a soft brush to gently dust the entire exterior being extra gentle around any hand-painted or delicate details. Especially if any of the paint is starting to lift.

  2. Use a cotton swab or small brush for carved or delicate areas and make sure there is no moisture present.

  3. Polish or Wax the body if polished with a high-quality wood polish or wax used sparingly. Always make sure you test the product on a small area first.

Cleaning the Clock Face & Hands

  1. Mora Clock faces are usually an enamelled metal plate or a painted wooden face in the very early 1800. Don’t use any cleaner on the face especially if you have cracked or lifting enamel.

  2. Use a soft, dry brush or microfiber cloth to gently clean the face and hands without applying any pressure to the surface.

Clock Movement

If you are using the original 1800s clockwork mechanism, its best to leave the movement cleaning to a clock professional. But here’s what you can do yourself if you are careful.

  1. Remove the clock hood and gently blow out any dust with a rubber blower or use a soft brush very gently applied.

  2. Oiling the mechanism - DON'T. Leave it to a horologist.

  3. If you have one of our special hi torque Battery mora clock mechanisms fitted, there is really nothing you need to do. Just change the battery ( AA Duracell brand only) and gently dust around the hands with a soft brush.

Things to remember

  • Keep your Mora clock away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity as it can cause the wood in the body to shrink or expand which can cause the wood to split.

  • Make sure your clock is level and secured so it wont fall if knocked by accident

  • Only move the hands on the battery mechanism by using the small wheel on the back of the mechanism box

  • Give your mora clock a name and it will love you back.
