So you want to buy a mora clock for your home but dont know where to start?
Let us help you with a few thoughts and then you can find your perfect mora clock from our extensive collection of antique mora clocks

Authenticity, origin & age
The original Mora clocks were made in and around the town of Mora in Dalarna, Sweden, mostly between about 1790 and 1880.
Many genuine examples will bear signatures or initials of the clockmaker (for example AAS, CE Rydberg) or the town name “Mora”. But be cautious — the presence of initials is not always a guarantee taht it was made by that maker.
Look at the movement: original ones typically have weights, a pendulum, and an 8-day cycle or if you want it to be simpler to maintain choose a battery mechanism

Style, proportion & materials
Mora clocks are known for their curvy waist / hourglass shape rather than the straight lines of many English grandfather clocks.
Typical dimensions go from 180 – 250 cm tall and 50-70 cm wide to a depth of 20-30 cm.
Materials: Usually a pine or rarely oak body. The older ones may have lots of hand-carved details, gesso ornamentation or folk-art painting.
Finish, patina & condition
The finish (paint colour, decorative motifs) matters both for aesthetics and value. Some are very simple “country” style while others have elaborate painting or carvings.
Patina and signs of age can enhance authenticity. For example, aged enamel on the dial small cracks in paint, or wear in the wood but over-restoration can ruin the feel of the Swedish mora clock
Consider condition: all antique clocks will have wood movement, perhaps some missing glass panes or damage to the enamel face. Thats ok and usual - just choose the level of condition you prefer

Mechanism & maintenance
Decide whether you want to use the original mechanical movement which will need servicing, weights and regular winding or whether and more sensibly you want a modern battery.
We generally recommend the hi torque battery mechanism option - either a standard hi torque professional clock mechanism or a lovely sounding chiming mechanism with an 8 hour night off switch.
Fit to your space & design
The antique mora clocks is tall and visually prominent so you’ll want to ensure you have the height and width in teh place where you want it in your home.
Mora clocks are antiques that fit well into many interiors — traditional, farmhouse, Scandinavian minimalist or ultra modern.
Consider colour and decoration: Do you want something subtle in muted tones in pale grey, white or cream or something with bold folk-art painting? That will affect how it integrates into your decor.
